Context MAXIMUM LIGHT POLLUTION CONTROL

For the perfect functioning of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in the Canary Islands, it is necessary to preserve the visibility of the stars, impeding any form of light pollution.

For this reason, the local government has passed special laws and control regulations to regulate public lighting in neighbouring villages so as not to disturb the observation of the night sky.

Solution
We analysed the position of the street fixtures then designed the LED relamping, calibrating the light beam to ensure maximum control over light pollution and colour spectrum in the installation area.
The proposed solutions have an amber colour temperature and come certified against light pollution by the local IAC (Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias).
Intervention in numbers
1200 installed luminaires
-20 % light pollution
2200K extra warm colour for an effect similar to old sodium luminaires
