Context
For a public authority in the province of Perugia, in Umbria (Italy), we designed the retrofit of more than 20 municipal buildings, with particular focus on school buildings, including both primary and secondary schools. The goal was to reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs, improve visual and environmental comfort in teaching spaces, and introduce centralized management and monitoring of the systems — without any structural work for dedicated control cabling.

Solution
The proposed architecture is built on several integrated layers, connected to one another through a Bluetooth Mesh NLC network, with no need for any cabling. At its base, the existing luminaires will be replaced with high-efficiency luminaires. Presence and light sensors were also included, automatically adjusting light levels based on room occupancy and available daylight, optimizing consumption in real time. A gateway collects data from the network and transmits it to the SkylarkNet supervision platform, from which the authority can remotely manage and monitor the entire building portfolio. Rounding out the architecture, the system was made ready for interoperability with the Building Automation system, which makes it possible to integrate the HVAC systems on the same platform.
